Exploring the Different Facelift Options: Which One Is Right for You?
As a leading provider of cosmetic surgery, Alabama Surgical Arts offers a range of options to rejuvenate your appearance and restore a youthful look. Many potential patients, often without a clear idea of the specific areas they want to address, come to us for an initial consultation. This is understandable, as the term ‘facelift’ is commonly used to describe any cosmetic surgery on the face aimed at reducing lines and wrinkles. Rest assured, our experienced team is here to guide you through the process. Â
Types of FaceliftÂ
In the strictest sense (and as defined by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery), there are three types of facelift, all of which focus on the lower two-thirds of the face and the neck area.Â
Traditional FaceliftÂ
This facelift is best for patients with moderate to advanced signs of aging on the mid to lower face and neck. It lifts sagging skin and jowls and can show dramatic results. Incisions are made behind the hairline at the temples, running around the front of the ears. We reposition the deeper tissues and remove excess skin, eliminating jowls, smoothing creases, and getting rid of sagging under the chin.Â
A traditional facelift is the most commonly requested. Recovery may take one to two weeks, but the results are impressive for anyone who wants to shave several years off their appearance and get rid of the loose skin that comes with aging.Â
Mini FaceliftÂ
This is a less invasive version of the traditional facelift for younger patients with milder sagging and wrinkles. Using shorter incisions located along the hairline above the years or in the natural creases around the ear, we lift and tighten tissues around the cheeks to refine the jawline, minimize jowls, and give the patient a fresher appearance.Â
If you are younger and just beginning to show signs of aging, a mini facelift is an excellent way to slow the signs of aging and rejuvenate your appearance with minimal downtime.Â
Deep Plane FaceliftÂ
The deep plane facelift is a comprehensive option for patients with advanced signs of aging. This procedure involves repositioning not only tissues and skin but also the underlying muscles and structures of the face. The result is a more intense lifting effect without the need for overtightening the skin, ensuring exceptional and natural-looking results. We may also reposition the fat pads in the patient’s cheeks to lift the mid-face, further enhancing the natural appearance. Â
Because Deep Plane Face Lifts involve the musculature of the face, recovery takes longer, but the results can be dramatic and tend to last longer than with a traditional facelift. Â
Other Types of Facial LiftsÂ
Other types of “lift” cosmetic surgeries address lines, wrinkles, and sagging on the upper portion of the face or target specific areas such as the lips. These are not considered facelifts but are types of lift procedures used on areas of the face or neck to address signs of aging not addressed by a facelift.Â
- Upper Blepharoplasty & Brow Lift: Also called a lid tuck and forehead lift, this procedure combines the removal of excess skin from the upper eyelid with lifting the skin of the brow and forehead, smoothing the forehead lines, and eliminating the sleepy appearance often seen with drooping eyelids.Â
- Isolated Neck Lift: When the only area that is an issue is excess, sagging skin on the neck, an isolated neck lift can remove or smooth out excess skin for a more youthful appearance.Â
- Lip Lift/Corner Lip Lift: Thinning upper lips or lips that curve down at the outer edges are common signs of aging. Lip lifts or corner lip lifts address this by raising the center portion or corners of the lips, giving the appearance of a fuller or upturned upper lip.Â
