Combatting Crepey Skin and Other Signs of Aging

When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see or think, “That can’t be right!”?

Crepey skin and wrinkles are natural signs of aging as collagen and elastin break down. However, for some of us, wrinkled skin and early signs of facial aging arrive earlier than expected. If you are not satisfied with how your skin looks, it may be time to invest in a better skincare routine, including soothing facials and aesthetic microneedling to improve the health and appearance of your skin.

Crepey Skin: How Skin Ages Over Time

In your 20s, the main enemies of your skin are the sun and how you treat it. While you may not have many wrinkles, and crepey skin is a long way off, your skin can become dull from the buildup of dead skin cells, and sun damage can occur that won’t show up until years later.

In your 30s and 40s, the early signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkled skin, begin to appear. Loss of facial volume, dark circles under the eyes, and slower cellular repair all begin to accelerate. Decreased collagen production and elastin breakdown lead to delicate, crepey skin.

By the time we hit our 50s, collagen and elastin breakdown have kicked into overdrive, contributing to the crepey skin that ages us. Wrinkled skin begins to sag, looks papery, and is thinner, with blood vessels visible beneath the surface.

Combating Crepey Skin: Skincare, Facials, and Service Options

Medical Grade Skincare

Rather than slathering your face with unproven moisturizers and serums from the drugstore, protect your skin against damage and moisturize it with medical-grade skincare from our carefully curated products containing Vitamin C, Tretinoin, and high-SPF sunscreens. We carry a selection of scientifically backed skin care lines that protect your skin from the sun and environmental damage while encouraging the rejuvenation of elastin and collagen in the skin. Using these skincare products beginning in your 20s can dramatically delay the signs of aging.

Facials

Alabama Surgical Arts offers a menu of facials targeting various concerns, including facial dryness and tightness, sun damage, and loss of collagen or elastin. We tailor our facials to your specific skin issues to restore health, hydrate dry skin, and improve skin elasticity and texture. Gentle skin infusions, such as our Diamond Glow facial, revitalize skin without having to break it. Cell turnover and sloughing of dead skin cells create the tell-tale glow of healthy, revitalized skin.

Our Oxygeneo facials are a three-in-one treatment that exfoliates, infuses, and oxygenates the skin. They increase the absorption of skincare products and hydrate and plump the skin for a youthful, glowing complexion.

Services

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels renew the surface texture of your skin, removing dead skin cells to reveal healthy, new skin cells. Depending on how deep the peel is, it can eliminate mild to moderate wrinkles, some surface discoloration, and scarring.

Microneedling

Sometimes called a “vampire facial,” the microneedling procedure creates thousands of tiny injuries to the skin’s surface. This stimulates collagen and elastin production and is an excellent way to improve the look of acne scars. It also tightens the skin, creating a facelift effect without having to go under the knife.

Peptaxel Facial

The Peptaxel facial can be considered a form of microneedling but without the needles. Instead, Idenel Peptaxel is applied to the skin. This rich serum contains an ingredient combining marine-derived microneedles and peptides. These ingredients penetrate the skin and are released beneath the surface, stimulating collagen production to smooth away even severely wrinkled skin and improving skin elasticity.

Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser resurfacing is considered the gold standard of facial skin rejuvenation treatments. It is the most powerful treatment available and can improve or smooth away wrinkled skin, acne scars, and precancerous skin cells. Collagen production is stimulated, and sun damage is removed. The CO2 facial improves elasticity and thickness, resulting in a plumper appearance and less crepey skin.

Alabama Surgical Arts’s medical spa offers many ways to combat crepey skin, including non-invasive skin products you can use at home, in-office facials, microneedling, and other options that can improve the look and feel of your skin without cosmetic surgery.
