What is a Dental Implant? | Montgomery AL

At Alabama Surgical Arts we get asked this question frequently.  The more important question to you the patient is how do I replace my tooth? A natural tooth is made up of a crown (white portion above the gums) and a root (yellowish portion below the gums anchored in the bone). An implant restoration is made of 3 main components. Each component replaces a portion of the tooth. The first is the dental implant itself, a titanium screw that is used to replace the root of your missing tooth. The second component is the abutment which connects the implant in the bone to the crown above. The crown is the third component of the implant restoration. Watch this video for a visual demonstration of how these components work together to replace your tooth.
