What Are Dental Implants?
At Alabama Surgical Arts, we get asked this question frequently. “How do I replace my tooth?” is the more important question to the patient. A natural tooth is made up of two components, a crown (the white portion above the gums used to chew food) and a root (yellowish portion below the gums anchored in the bone). An implant restoration is made of three main components, with each component replacing a portion of the tooth.
The first component is the dental implant itself, a titanium screw that is used to replace the root of your missing tooth. Time is allowed for bone to heal and grow around the dental implant. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. The second component, a support post (abutment), is then placed on the implant. The abutment connects the implant in the bone to the crown above. The crown is the third component of the implant restoration and is placed on top of the abutment. Watch this video for a visual demonstration of how these components work together to replace your tooth.
Surgical Advances in Dental Implants
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, growth factors, and bone grafting, Dr. Nizam and Dr. Ivory are able to place immediate implants at the time of tooth extraction . In some cases in the anterior aesthetic region, a temporary tooth may also be placed on the implant. We make it our goal at Alabama Surgical Arts to decrease treatment times, decrease pain, and increase predictably. All of this is completed will you are asleep so there is no pain, anxiety, or fear.
Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Drs. Nizam or Ivory performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

I can across dr. Sami Nizam by coincidence after seeing 4 other oral surgeons that couldn’t even explain to me what is wrong w my teeth. All I got was the estimate on the cost. When I met dr. Sami Nizam he took his time to explain to me what was the issue, showed me the pics n shortly after he did total of 4 surgeries on my teeth including the plastic surgery on my gums to cover all the scars. He always checked on me after the surgery if I’m doing ok. Thanks to him I have my beautiful smile back. Than I found out he does fillers so I had him do my lips. He’s very knowledgeable doctor. I highly recommend.
